Clyde the Glide!

Written by ApacheVersace

So, i decided to finally break into some of the MT i have totalled from packs and trading... because i needed a top top SG and i had fallen in love with the Slashing/3D aspect of the game- and who really better right now than the Glide himself?? This card is a cot damn monster, my 2nd favorite card this year behind Dr J (check my review on him and you will see why) he is probably the most offensively versatile player i have because he can burn you to the rim or punish you if you give him just a yard from the arc.

Bought for: 350,000 MT (for both the current & historic Rockets collection)

Strengths:

  • Inside scoring: Great at finishing near the rim, makes a lot of layups with contact (excuse the bs animations that make you miss) and can JAM on fools with some sick animations- a very fast and aggressive dunker, top tier with the likes of Vince.
  • Standing Shot 3pt: Doesn't miss open shots, can even knock down contested and moving 3's to a degree- a good shooter, but not a lazer.
  • Mid range game: Very strong. Sadly in my lineup he competes alongside players like Dr J and Dantley, who are elite. Therefore i can tell the difference between INSANE mid range and very strong midrange... Drexler is the latter, an 8.5/10.
  • Defense: Very solid defender, once again slightly inferior to Dr J but i would consider him an elite defender. Covers ground quickly, decent shot contest, good defensive rebounding, decent stealing, but most importantly- good at staying in front of his man.

Weaknesses:

  • Shooting form/release: Far from catastrophic, but has a unique style and release time that is hard to master, can still make LOTS of buckets without greening, but to call his shooting 'butter' or 'green bean' would be a lie. All the same a very very solid shooter.
  • Post scoring: Not bad, but not as good as you would hope given his size, position and post stats being well above average for a SG.

Recommended Strategy: "Drive 1v1 or in the slightest of gaps, catch and shoot, create space and shoot, mid range pull-up, slash, drive in to create space then kick out to an open teammate."

Use if: "You want a beastly player as the SG/SF position (size, athleticism, dunks etc.)- arguably the best in his category (SG) if not then certainly an elite- who can play solid D and bang home the 3 ball with consistency."

Don't use if: "You want a little, agile, SG/PG who is a lazer from 3 (e.g. Diamond Goodrich)"

Bottom Line: "An athletic 2-way superstar with beautiful animations and great defense, can pretty much do it all on offense, making him a versatile threat whenever he is on the court. Also, remember this 350k gives you 2 rubies (Sampson and Hayes who are great role players) and a lot of surprisingly strong sapphires (The Jet, Otis Thorpe, Scola #GOAT, Vernon Maxwell, etc.)... just to sway you a little more ;)"

cheers mate :) i've had a lot of people ask about him ever since i posted him in my lineup- thought it would only be right to give him a relatively lengthy and honest review for anyone who is contemplating getting him :)

yeah fair enough, this is good thought because people will probably get him now haha

do you buy vc or mt?

    VC... don't wanna get banned!

What brand of shoe does he wear?

    0

if you're talking about adding 2k shoes to boost his performance, i've only added a couple, and haven't had an issue yet on him. so maybe i've been unknowingly lucky with my shoe selection or he doesn't have any issues- either way i couldn't tell you, sorry!

if you check my lineup you realise too much.. £400 already!! Fortunately i work full time so i have the luxury of spending like £30 a week- but i feel bad when i do!

Clyde is incredible. I agree with your review with the exception of his post game. I focus a lot on that because of his moves, which I think are superior, and the fact that he's posting up smaller guys every matchup. His up and under from inside 10 feet will get you some points, his shimmy is his best jumper, and his fade is about 50-50, which is a good move late in the shot clock. On his midrange, yes, it is not automatic, but it's really good (I happen to like the animaiton) and if you put midrange deadeye on him he'll be pretty good. Don't forget the alpha dog badge - he is a go to guy in the clutch, and i've sank many contested middys late in games with him.

After learning his post game a bit better i have to agree that is fade is very nice, the trick is to bait the person into thinking you are gonna spin/hook so they overdefend the interior, then after the motioned 'shoulderbarge' that players do in the post, step away from the defender- as soon as he has half a yard hit the fade and its money.
Its not his post fade thats bad, its just very situational, like its money in that split second between barging the player and stepping away.

Do you think I should save my money and buy Butler/Harden instead?

Haven't tried butler but i have seen reviews and Clyde appears the greater card. However when it comes to Harden it all depends how much you value your defense- harden is SOOOO good offensively, i actually start him over Clyde because my starting 5 already has fantastic defensive players (Walt, Dr J, Dikembe/Mikan etc.) so i can afford to start Harden and watch him take over. Harden is better offensively, but Clyde is better overall (if you have to take the entire card into equation- not just certain aspects).
Harden will no doubt have a diamond soon- and Clyde still has his USA reward card to come- but i cant see Diamond Harden being lower than 300k and USA Clyde costing 500k+ to unlock, so if you're limit on a player is less than 250k then heed what ive said and make your choice on that- however if youre a big spender you might wanna wait as both will get better cards :)

Do you think Clyde is worth paying double what Harden costs?

    0

Solely down to your play style and reliance on defense. If you need a 2-way star then clyde. If you don't need that then Harden.
Harden is the better scorer, but Clyde is the better player.
All up to you from there :)
