Post Hook for Days!

Written by JLBallin

This new content of signature series diamonds Allen Iverson, Hassan Whiteside, and amethyst Hakeem Olajuwon was a huge surprise to me because it was advertised late on 2K's twitter but was first in the game. I was fortunate enough to pull this Hakeem in a 20 pack box.

Bought for: Packed in Throwback Box

Strengths:

  • Inside scoring: Great at finishing near the rim, post moves, standing dunk
  • Defense: locks down, blocks, contests well
  • Rebounding: grabs boards well
  • Strength: 88 works but it should be in the 90s because he does bully and back his way into the paint

Weaknesses:

  • three: it's a 63 so only take when wide open and corner
  • driving dunk: not good and I would like my centers to be able to have a driving dunk even if they are not fast

Recommended Strategy: mid range, post moves, jump to block shots and grab rebounds

Other Comments: His mid range makes him versatile so I put him at PF and I have the diamond Hassan at center. this duo provides excellent defense with rebounding and blocks. I cruised by 3 more all time domination teams with them

Use if: you want a post dominate, rebounding, and defensive center with mid range

Don't use if: you want a stretch 5 who can shoot the three or an athletic center who runs fast and has a high driving dunk

Bottom Line: Price is reasonable for now and definitely worth it. I only gave 4 stars because there is room for improvement on a future diamond version

Since you have whiteside, who do you believe is the better center.

I wrote a review on both. its not an easy choice. both got similar dominating post and defense and rebounding. Hakeem is better on mid range. I'm liking Hassan better because he seems to get more rebounds for me and I don't take man mids as I'm more of a three taker and I drive a ton

I got 50k MT and my team needs defense who should I get?

Buy Whiteside and do the challenge with him. He is an amazing defensive player and a great rebounder. Even if you don’t get anything from the challenge (I got Hakeem) you still have Whiteside. Plus if you get another Hassan yo can sell him and get your my back

I bought myself a whiteside and done the challenge, and also got Hakeem!
I'm keeping Whiteside though, 14.5K for a diamond center is a no brainer, undervalued

If you only want defense, ben wallace is around 40k or so, hes been dropping, but id say whiteside is the better choice

    3

I’d agree that Ben Wallace is the better big for defense because he is so mobile and can chase those athletic stretch bigs like KP who can absolutely expose slow bigs

    Thanks to you to

in your case, Whiteside for defense, Hakeem more for offense because of better post moves, midrange

I like Hassan's mid more cause of the quickness of the release. When you're playing against teams which starters isn't less than 94-95 ovr, it's more important to release quickly and 78 is enough for this. Hakeem's release is like Artest's, who always shoot contested shots against good All-Time teams. And Karl Malone (who is better at PF than Hakeem) with Stockton posterized Jabar 2 times and Shaq 1 time against the Lakers, he can hit about 70% of open threes. And it's very important to be able to run for PF. For me Hakeem is very good bench Center, I play Kenyon Martin with him, who is excellent on defence and standing dunks under the rim.

I pulled Hakeem and picked up Whiteside for 12k the other day. I really wanted to keep Hakeem on my team, but his vertical just seems soooooo slow. I've been finding I get out rebounded by SFs and smaller players all the time, because he jumps so slow.

In just two games with Hassan, however, he has flown over everyone for boards, so I much prefer his play style now. Hakeem does have an amazing post arsenal, but Hassan has shown a very accurate post hook for me as well.

    This or amy Demarcus cousins?

    2

Depends on your playstyle. Cousins is way better if you want a stretch big or someone to run the Pick & Roll/Fade with. Olajuwon is much better than cousins if you like to feed your center in the post, or if you want a defensive big man.

Cousins for me often ran the floor and was able to blow by defenders to dunk. Cousins's three is very good, but dont make pull-ups and you will be fine. I found Cousins as great offensive rebounder. I didnt pay attention to him, but i had on the bench him and ruby AD. They were on FIRE. Boogie was cleaning glass while AD was running fast breaks. OP duo. But Im not sure using Boogie without AD.

Yeah, Cousins is probably better for transition as well, hadn't really thought about that, but good point

Honestly, i found with the new cards that cousins tends to get a lot more exposed on D. He is starting to become a liability on defense and his 3-ball just isn't good enough to be justified at this point.

I still like his big statue and able to pack down guys for the post fade and his great rebounding and blocks. But I agree with the three, in my opinion its because of his release but somehow he is not consistent with the three and it may be because 84 is average

Cousins's three is OK when you attempt about 2-3 Wide Open Catch&Shoot per game

Should I buy diamond Whiteside or stick with amethyst Hakeem? I play a style where my centre isn't really involved in my offence so doesn't really matter. I only play defence with them.

Hakeem is good enough as his offense makes him complete. Whiteside is all defense/ tough choice but both are fine
