Galaxy Opal MJ:Is He Worth It?

Written by SteveTrash_13

In this review I’m not gonna talk about how many points I scored with him in an online game or how great he is, because we can all read his stats. He’s great, we all know that. Just a quick glance look at his attributes will tell you that. I’m going to discuss he animations and tendencies and the overall feel of the card and weather it is worth the hefty price tag.

Short paragraph summarizing the review and how you used the player

Bought for: Packed

Strengths:

  • Inside scoring: MJ’s lay-ups and dunk animations are some of the most fun and outrageous animations in the game. However both the Galaxy Opal and Pink Diamond versions have the same animations, tendencies, badges and “Basically the same finishing stats depending on what coach you use. (I use Mike D’Antoni)
  • Defense: Defensive tendencies are exactly the same on both cards, and badge-wise they are the same except the for Chase Down artist.
  • Shooting: while the Galaxy Opal definitely has better stats, MJ’s release is sooo smooth that they both will hit consistently anyway (your gonna have to add Limitless Range to the PD)
  • Extras: Both cards have HOF Post Spin Technician which is really cheese for a guard matched up against another guard
  • Playmaking: This is probably what separates these cards two cards more than anything. The Galaxy Opal has HOF Ankle Breaker, Dimer, and Lob City Passer whereas the PD only has them on Gold. These are big time badges to have HOF and is really the biggest reason to want the Galaxy Opal over the PD.

Bottom Line: While the Galaxy Opal is the Superior card, it is NOT worth paying 700k MT (price of card when review is written) when the PD is only about 110-120k MT. The PD does everything that the Galaxy Opal does ALMOST to the same degree of the Galaxy Opal for 1/7 of the price. What makes MJ a next level card isn’t the stats or the badges, it’s his tendencies and animations that separate him from the other players. For a budget baller I’d recommend getting the PD. For those who just want to see that beautiful Galaxy Opal in there lineup and got the money for it, then go for it.

Forgot to put this, but he’s obviously a 5-star player (PD and Galaxy Opal)

    Solid review man
While I only own the PD, I think one big thing you forgot is the greatly improved strength and low post defensive IQ on the GO. Sadly because of position cheesers who regularly put big men at wing positions being able to defend in the paint is important for almost every position now. Otherwise much agreed i’m Loving the PD so much, nice comparative review.

    Love the review dude.
But for some reason the pink diamond MJ isn't as good at the Opal one
It could be because i do the pick and fade or the pick and pop the three, but if you ask me i perfer the opal one

Oh and hop shots they go in all the time for me even if the release isn’t green

MJ’s an inside out scorer, his card is best used similarly to how he played in real life. He can shoot the 3, but if your gameplay is spamming PNP and PNR you’re better off saving all that MT and buying Diamond JR. If you post up with MJ, take fades, moving mids, open mids, post spins, post escape drives, up and unders, fake fades into layups, and all that other fun stuff, he can easily be a bucket every play on Iso against pretty much everyone including other MJs.

Nice review! In PC the Opal MJ is going for 1,2-1,3 mill, and the PD Mj goes for 85-90K. I sniped a PD for 58k. :) Thanks for the review, I think I'm not going to buy the Opal one, thats too expensive for me, maybe I can pull in a pack.

The opal is around 400k now. Both clank alot of dunks for me tbh but still a 10/10 card. I had the glitched pink diamond with 23 hof badges so was better than a regular one however the opal is considerably better even with less hof badges imo due to the strength(can push players out of bounds and backcourt) and 3pt shooting( yes the 99 three on gold deep range works better than 92 and hof deep range for me). But a 23hof jordan with shoe and a contract will be less that 200k.
