Taller Ben Wallace

Written by JLBallin

Heard about his amazing game but didn't watch it. Finding out about this moment card was cool but seeing that he's all postgame/defense/rebounding but no shooting, seems like another Ben Wallace.

Bought for: 41K MT (around 50k but just keep lowering on the filter slightly and you'll find some cheaper and I got a good deal)

Strengths:

  • Inside scoring: Great at finishing near the rim. In terms of finishing under the basket with layups or dunks yes he's good. He's not Blake Griffin so don't try to drive.
  • Midrange: good enough rating at 84 to hit the opens and a good pick and pop player.
  • defense: sticks with his man, blocks shots, picks off passes
  • rebounding: not a great vertical but good stats. Vertical does factor in but his size at 7 feet makes it up with good ratings. Vertical factors especially trying to go against high verticals for a big man like Dwight Howard and Blake Griffin.

Weaknesses:

  • Three: just a trash rating, wish he had like 80+
  • Driving: ok driving but with low ball control would not try too much or he'll get stripped of the ball

Recommended Strategy: mid range, post moves, pick and pop

Other Comments: (optional) A Taller Ben Wallace with a better midrange and worse dunking but thats not a big deal to me

Use if: "You want a defensive beast of a big man

Don't use if: you want a stretch big or athletic finishing big

Bottom Line: Getting lower in price and plays really consistent for me especially in getting rebounds. only played a few games at the time of this review but he gets nearly 10 in the handful of games I played. He is a center but I like him at PF as both my centers are over 7 ft as I have both PD Kareem and Ralph Sampson and Blake Griffin is my backup PF.

I got him and played one game so far, it was a domination game. He’s nothing like Wallace.

Wallace is a super athletic player capable of guarding almost anyone on the floor 1-5. He’s got no ability offensively other than putbacks and lobs.

Nurkic is no where near as athletic as Ben, though a strong defender. He’s very good on the boards- better than Ben because he’s got 3 more inches. He’s got some ability to score inside the paint out of the post and he can actually step out and hit some from midrange where Ben can’t.
