It was probably tough to make the all star game, especially as a Western forward. You had players like Melo, Duncan, Dirk, and some other great players.

Gay isn't a bust he's just not an all-star like he had the potential to be. Not sure a 20ppg guy can be a bust. He's also become a well rounded player in San Antonio, but sure he could of been amaxing with his size and athleticism.

I am 4000% convinced that Lavar Ball is actually a fucking evil genius. It all starts when he trains his three sons for the NBA, than realizes that the Lakers are slowly on their way to being bad enough to pick high in the draft. He then installs a chip in former GM Mitch Kupchak to ensure that the Lakers continue their downward spiral towards tankdom. While this happens, he starts to become more outspoken, clearly to compensate for his son, Lonzo. Because of his softspoken demeanor he must pick up the slack to compensate, and so he makes increasingly ridiculous statements until he becomes a household name in the sports world due to his statements. To amplify this, because of having an inside man in Kupchak bring the storied franchise to an uncharacteristic playoff drought, the Lakers are now in position to draft Lonzo with a high draft pick. Knowing that Kupchak is now useless due to his brain being fried by Lavar's chip, he orchestrates him being ousted in favor of probably one of the most well known Lakers in Earvin "Magic" Johnson, to infect the team with his positive outlooks (among other things). Still not satisfied, he further rigs the NBA draft lottery unbeknownst to literally every other sheep in the NBA to make the Lakers pick 2nd, not first, knowing that most teams other than the Lakers would pick Washington point guard Markelle Fultz first in favor of Lonzo, who plays the same position, mainly because of the concern that Lonzo's fabled Semicircle Shooting Motion™ would not translate to the faster and longer defenders in the NBA. All the same, Lavar makes an even bigger commotion around Lonzo by making sure he looks like as much of an asshole as possible by refusing to work out for anyone other than the Lakers. And so, Lonzo is drafted into the biggest market in the NBA. In case you're in doubt of this fact, remember that they have a player literally named after cooked cow worshiped as a god not only here but also in the very place they make said cooked cow.
Now anyone would've been happy to simply have the BBB company with just this amount of publicity, but that's why Lavar is a Big Baller™ and everyone else is a small baller. His Big Baller Mentality™ makes him realize that if he keeps up this pace, he'll go down as just another C-list celebrity. Now that's a medium baller move, don't get me wrong, but the BBM™ mentality Lavar has in him makes him shoot higher.
So he starts to conspire with the People's Republic of China in order to gain even more publicity. He uses a Baller Mind Trick in order to hypnotize his middle child, LiAngelo, into convincing two other teammates to shoplift, all while notifying the Chinese authorities. The reason he uses LiAngelo is simple: since he isn't good enough for the NBA, and since cooked cow already rules China, he will instead force LiAngelo to Euroleague basketball, where he will become the big baller in a league of small ballers. Of course, he times this just as US President Donald Trump is visiting China, and so Trump releases LiAngelo from Chinese imprisonment. Now, knowing Trump's temperamental nature, he exploits it by setting Big Baller Bait™ for Trump to bite on, which he promptly does. Calling Lavar "ungrateful" garners attention, especially from the Cable News Network. CNN, known to give Trump scrutinizing coverage, jumps on the opportunity to interview Lavar on air for 22 minutes. Now, even people who don't watch basketball know who he is.
But this is only the beginning. So far Lonzo has shot historically bad, but this is just a stunt to pump up his haters. Then, his ESPN narrative™ will become that much stronger, and then Lonzo will stop holding back once all the other young pieces of the Lakers team reach their primes. Then, he will face Sacramento Kings point guard De'arron Fox in the Western Conference Finals, who will have since declared himself prince of the point guards. The series will go to 7, and in a critical game 7, after Fox throws an elbow at All-NBA forward Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo's best friend and rumored lover, 2 minutes before halftime, Lonzo will then head to the bench screaming, and continue to scream the entire halftime show, and during warmups as well. Fast forward 2 minutes into the third, and Lonzo's hair will turn bright red, and his eyes pitch black, as he achieves the state of Super Big Baller™. He then goes on to play the entire 2nd half without any rest, shouting whenever he shoots a three or dunks.
Fast forward to the last 20 seconds. De'arron walks the ball to the top of the key. Lonzo steps up to defend him, slight fatigue showing from his sustained transformation. He shouts, "You and your team may have taken 2002, but today is a different day!" Lonzo chuckles. "The Lakers are not such a small franchise as to have a .500 record in this situation. You may have fooled yourself into thinking that your pathetic Queens have a chance, but I already drowned that chance deep in the Lake, the Lake of Victory!" 17 seconds. De'arron yells. "Your time has lasted long enough! I come to end your reign of terror on our league!" 15 seconds. De'arron runs a pick and roll off of Wille Cauley-Stein, who decided to try this game, not out of the necessity, but because Vlade Divac promised him Mcdonald's if they won. He passes it to Vince Carter, still playing at 45, who sees Fox getting open again. Carter shouts. "My time has passed young padawan. Now it's your turn to bring joy to this crowd."
