Millennium Goal #6: combat HIV, Malaria and other diseases
Hiv refers to Human Immuno-deficiency Virus
1. Our goal is to lower the rate and slow down the spread of Aids and Malaria. The historical background information for aids is that it was first traced in Chimpanzees in 1950. In 1993 there was a massive outbreak of aids in Chimpanzees, it was then scientifically compared and identical to aids in which humans had. The historical background for Malaria is that Mosquitos held it over 30 million years ago. It became a major health hazard in the 1600s when massive outbreaks would occur and people didn’t know what they were getting sick with.
2. When Aids became a major health concern, doctors did not know how to cure it/kill it. Nothing has changed over the years, and doctors don’t know how to cure it. Now they give their patients medicine that can control. When Malaria became a major health concern in the 1600s, there wasn’t anything that could prove if medicine was good for you or not, so doctors would prescribe many different types of pills to patients hoping that they could find a cure. Now some prescriptions can kill Malaria.
3. For Aids, a study in 2018 shows that 83% of people that contract the virus are either gay or bisexual. For Malaria, A study in 2019 showed that 67% of people who contract Malaria are under the age of 6, and 29% are people over 70.
4. For aids it is, Canada. Each year Canadian government contributes $100M to find a cure for Aids. The second country in Africa. Politicians will require increased use of condoms, sustainable programmes to encourage changes in sexual behaviour, affordable methods for preventing infection in high-risk populations and expanded treatments for preventing mother-to-child transmissions. Now for Malaria, the 2 countries are Mexico. Mexico has medicine that can cure Malaria in the human body within 2 weeks. The second country is Vietnam. Vietnam doctors have also found cures to get rid of Malaria from the human body within 2 weeks.
5. The goal was to have proper medication provided and let their parents teach them their way. In 2021, schools now give medication and treatment to people who are hurt or have a disease of some sort. although some places like Africa are much poorer and can't afford medication and food.
6. This goal has somewhat met its goal, Scientists have a way to cure malaria and HIV. kids have a better education system and parents can now homeschool their kids meaning they can teach them themselves.
7. Some challenges people face while trying to complete this goal
8. I think one of the things we can do to achieve this goal is with better Food and Agriculture. The FAO (food and agriculture organization) could play a big role in this goal by providing free nutritious foods for people with HIV/AIDS. Since HIV/AIDS is a condition that damages your immune system and stops it from fighting infections and diseases, nutrients could help get them slowly to build their immune system. This is just one of the things we can do to achieve this goal
9. If this goal was to be 100% achieved, almost everyone in the world would be healthy and barely get sick because there wouldn’t be any immune deficiency or lack of immunity, and even if there was, there would be a cure for it.
